PFI was competing in a commodity category in which price was the dominant purchase factor. Branding was not important and PFI could not become the low cost producer.

Everybody was going to market in the same way, being driven by the retail buyers demands. The buyers had little or no consumer insight in this category. They were purchasing product and driving product development based on criteria that was not understood by, nor relevant, to consumers. Determined consumer purchase factors and incorporated them into sales presentations, packaging and POS materials. Helped position PFI as market driven company with consumer insights.
